FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

If an answer here sounds more reassuring than the privacy or security pages, trust those pages: they are the precise version.

Basics

What is Darkpool?

An Ethereum wallet with a shielded balance. You deposit ETH or USDC into a shared pool, then send, withdraw or trade from it using zero-knowledge proofs made in your browser. Its main use is funding fresh wallets without a public link to your main wallet.

What problem does it solve?

On Ethereum every transfer is public, and wallets that trade are watched and copied. A new wallet funded from your main one is linked to it in one hop. Darkpool removes that funding link. It does not hide the trade itself.

Can I use it now?

Mainnet deposits and $DARK purchases are not available yet. Verified deployment and token addresses will appear on the status page before those actions open.

Which assets are supported?

The shielded pool supports ETH and USDC. Ghost Buy and Ghost Sell trade Stockereum tokens. General Uniswap routing for Ghost trades: .

Which network is it on?

Ethereum mainnet (chain 1) for the beta. Lower-cost layer-2 deployment: .

Privacy

Am I anonymous if I use Darkpool?

No. Darkpool reduces linkability; it does not promise anonymity. Deposits, withdrawals, ghost wallets and their trades are public. A small pool, distinctive amounts or timing can let observers correlate activity.

What exactly is hidden?

Which notes fund an action, who owns which note, and the amounts and parties of private transfers inside the pool.

What does Ghost Buy hide?

It separates a trade’s funding from your public wallet through the shielded pool. The purchase, receiving wallet and token balance remain visible. Reusing fresh wallets or combining their funds can create links.

How do I get the most privacy?

Wait between deposit and withdrawal, avoid unique amounts, never withdraw to a wallet linked to your deposit, and keep ghost wallets separate. See best practices.

Does the relayer learn who I am?

The relayer sees your request, its public outputs and network metadata such as your IP address. It does not see your seed or which notes you spent.

Is Darkpool a way to hide illicit funds?

No. Deposits from sanctioned addresses are refused. Darkpool is built for ordinary users who don’t want their wallet history broadcast with every trade.

Using the wallet

What is a fresh (ghost) wallet?

A normal Ethereum address derived from your seed by index. Ghost Buy delivers tokens to a new one that has never held ETH, and Ghost Sell lets it sell without ETH for gas. Your seed recovers all of them.

What is a dp1. address?

Your Darkpool receive address. Others can send to it privately from their shielded balance. It is not an Ethereum address.

How do I recover my wallet?

Enter your 24-word seed in the wallet. It rescans public pool events, decrypts the notes you own and re-derives every ghost wallet. An encrypted backup can speed this up, but the seed alone is enough.

What if the relayer is offline?

You can withdraw directly from the chain. The wallet builds the proof from your seed and public data, and you submit the transaction from any account with ETH for gas. That account is visible as the sender.

What happens to surplus from a Ghost Sell?

Your proof fixes a guaranteed minimum that goes back into the pool. If the sale fills better, the extra ETH stays in the fresh wallet, where you can recover it later. Very small surplus may not be worth the gas to move.

What happens if a transaction fails halfway?

Ghost Buy, Ghost Sell and Private Swap are single transactions: if any step fails, all of it reverts. The wallet journals each request so an interrupted one is retried unchanged.

Fees

What does Darkpool charge?

A 0.1% protocol fee on Ghost Buy and Ghost Sell, 0.1% on Private Swap, and 0% on staking. Relayed actions add a quoted network fee and a small fixed service fee (currently 0.00003 ETH). See fees.

Why is gas so high?

Verifying a zero-knowledge proof on Ethereum is expensive: about 1.6–2.0M gas per private action, roughly double for Private Swap. The cost in ETH is gas used × gas price, quoted before you sign.

Can the relayer overcharge me?

No. You sign the fee. The relayer cannot take more than the signed amount; if gas rises above the quote, you need a fresh quote.

Security

Is Darkpool audited?

No. There has been no independent audit. The mainnet launch will be an unaudited beta with deposit caps. Tests and Ethereum-fork rehearsals are development checks, not an audit.

Can the team freeze or take my funds?

The contracts have no owner and no upgrade path. A deposit guardian can only change how much new value a pool accepts and set or replace deposit screening (with notice). It cannot block transfers, withdrawals or exits, and it can renounce the role.

What is the trusted setup, and is it finished?

Groth16 needs a one-time setup that is sound if at least one contributor was honest. Darkpool’s builds on the public Perpetual Powers of Tau and was finalized with an Ethereum block-hash beacon. A multi-party ceremony is in progress. Details.

Does my seed ever leave my device?

No. Proofs are generated in your browser and only the proof and public data are sent. Anyone asking for your seed is attempting theft.

Is the code open?

A source archive with build scripts and licences is published: download it.

$DARK

Does $DARK exist?

Not yet. It will be created on Stockereum after the utility. The address will be published only on darkpool.website and the official X account after verification. How to verify it.

What are the token’s rules?

Stockereum tokens have a fixed 1,000,000,000 supply, no owner, no mint function, and liquidity in a permanent Uniswap v4 market.

What will $DARK be used for?

stDARK staking , revenue buybacks into the stDARK vault , and an option to pay the service fee in $DARK . None of it is live.

Will staking pay a yield?

Darkpool does not promise any rate or return. A stDARK share redeems for its part of the $DARK in the vault. That rises only when $DARK is added to the vault, for example by the planned revenue buybacks .
